Anglican Young People On-line

Well, last year I became involved in a program called "Anglican Young People On-line", which is basically a group that hooks up young anglicans around the country through the internet. I have been invited to be on the "consulting team" for the design of a website for this program, but the problem is, it seems we have a need for a new name. Here is a bit of information on why the original name was chosen:

"At the first visioning meeting last year, Anglican Young People On-line was
suggested and adopted as a 'working title'. I liked that it didn't say
"youth" as a number of people who will be using this site (the 21 plus
crowd) may consider themselves 'young' but might not think of themselves as
'youth'. Also, it says it's an online resource - right in the title."

Now my question for you, is what should we call it now? If you have any ideas/suggestions I, on behalf of the 'consulting team' would be enormously grateful.

Is this like a serious name (like an organization name) or just a site name? And does that mean url or just the title of the site?

Young Anglicans Online
The Young Anglican Community
Connecting Young Anglicans (sounds more like a slogan...)
Community for Young Anglicans

And the required nerd version:
Young Anglicans Pwn :D

You know what this has got me thinking... AOL Online. Ever think about that? That expanded literally means American Online Online...

P.S. Consultation board. Do you get a hand in making the site? =D

This will be a serious name. It will be the name for the whole project, so I think Young Anglicans Pwn might be out of the question, no matter how much I like it :)

Thanks a lot, they sound good. I will pass these on to Judy, unless she has read them already :p I don't think I will have a hand in the technical part of making the site. I believe they have contracted a professional to make it (1/2 step above my sweet HTML/CSS skillz :D) I am a part to give a youth's perspective on it, so it isn't made by adults only as it is for the youth!

I think I like "The Young Anglican Community" the best...The YAC. I see potential :)

By youth, Will, do you mean the "Young Anglicans"? :P

I am now a "young-ish" Congregationalist, so Jude might yell at me for adding my two cents worth ;)

but anyway, how about...

* Young Anglicans On-line (YAO)
* Young Anglican Connect (YAC)
* [Insert Pretentious Name Here] :P
* Young Anglicans in Cyberspace
* Wired Young Anglicans
* The Young & the Anglican ;)
* Anglicans in Cyberspace: The Next Generation :P

That's it for now... it was good to talk to you earlier, even though I sounded like I was underwater....damn Comcast and their bandwidth throttling!

I think you should name it:

"God only loves Anglicans"
or
"Catholics will burn in Hell"

Stir up some of the old grudges and maybe get some new Anglican recruits.

In all seriousness though, YAC would be good. But then it depends on whether you want to limit it just to Anglicans. Sure it could be done through the Anglican church, but personally I'm not sure I would put anglican in the name. It almost gives it a "clubby" feel. Like those clubhouses when you were little that said "Boys Only" expcept now it's "Anglicans Only":D

As someone who was baptized an Anglican, confirmed a Methodist, worked for the Anglicans, Methodists, Presbyterians, and worked with Baptists, Catholics, Pentecostals (of one variety or another), Lutherans, Seventh Day Adventists and am now a card-carrying member of the United Church of Christ (UCC) and am ministering in a UCC/Congregational Church...I totall agree, Nick. However, since it is an initiative of the Anglican Church of Canada, I guess they have to use the term "Anglican".

Religions aren't very accepting in the real world are they? I'm sure the Anglican organization wouldn't enjoy it too much if you called the site like the holy jihad gathering...

Well, I thought I should weigh in...
My name is Judy – I’m the person who is coordinating the project.
Charlie! Jihad? hey, have you ever heard of Unitarian Jihad(the name should tip you off that it’s a spoof). As they say in their blurb – ‘there will be serious outbreaks of reasonableness and moderation everywhere!!

(sorry - blog illiterate - you'll have to copy and paste that puppy.)
You can even get your own Unitarian Jihad name.

So, while I wouldn’t - in principle - have difficulty with calling it the holy jihad gathering – it might attract a REAAALLLY different clientele than we expected when people google it!!!

Blessings, from the benign deity of your choosing, or not,

Sibling Shotgun of Enlightenment

ps - what's wrong with having an identifier? People do tend to google things like "anglican youth" if they happen to be one. Bear in mind the title would make it google friendly, and hey, if something is a club for boys, why wouldn't they call it a boys club? Otherwise, everything becomes the 'bunch of people' site.
(and Rushan, we could say that the term "youth" is age-ist, couldn't we? :)

ahhhh, I just went hunting and now, I know what pwn means, and how to pronounce it.

more enlightenment!!

Charlie... your comment has probably got this blog, Will and yourself onto some international watch list now ;)

Yes, Jude, the term "youth" could be age-ist as could the term "young people"

Do I count as a "Anglican Young Person"?

I say you can be old or young whatever age you are. Sure society as a whole will put a tag on you, but what you feel is still what you feel right? I'd say I'm young, but even at 18, I feel so old sometimes.

And Rushan, if I were on some watchlist, I really doubt that comment would be the reason. I've written much more... anti-war statements in my time.

Charlie, if you're 18, you can't possibly feel OLD...

So... Will....

We going to get another post before you leave? You must be busy though.

Unlikely, Charlie....he's left :)

Travel safely, Will...and I look forward to lots and to lots and lots of posts from France!

Are you gonna post stuff from France about the stuff you are experiencing over there? It would be cool to read and hear what France is like.
